How to Sow and Plant

Stratify seeds in moist sand at about 4 °C (≈40 °F) for 3–4 weeks before sowing.
Sow seeds about ¼ inch (≈ 0.5–1 cm) deep in a well-draining soil mix.
Place container in full sun or a warm, bright area if starting indoors.

How to Grow

Use well-draining, sandy or rocky soil to mimic natural habitat.
Provide full sun exposure for healthy growth.
Water sparingly, allowing soil to dry out between waterings the plant is drought-tolerant and does not require frequent watering.
Once seedlings establish, transplant outdoors to a sunny, sandy or rocky bed — ideal for xeriscape or rock-garden design.

Tips

Ensure excellent drainage — Ephedra sinica does not tolerate waterlogged soil.
Avoid overwatering — less frequent watering supports its natural drought-hardy habit.
Give plenty of sunlight — partial shade may result in weak, leggy stems.
Stratification improves germination rates significantly — cold-moist pre-treatment is recommended.
