How to Sow and Plant

Germination: Maintain temperatures around 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) and keep soil moist; germination may take 3–6 weeks or longer.

Spacing: Place seeds or emerging seedlings about 20–30 cm (8–12 in) apart

Seed Prep: Cold stratify seeds for 4–6 weeks or soak in water for 24 hours before sowing to break dormancy.

Sowing: Sow seeds on the surface of a moist seed-starting mix in late winter or early spring. Lightly cover with fine soil or grit.

How to Grow

Water: Water moderately, ensuring soil remains moist but not waterlogged.

Light: Partial shade to full shade suits best, mimicking woodland conditions.

Soil: Rich, humus-rich, well-drained soil with consistent moisture is ideal

Tips

PLANT TYPE

Herbaceous perennial

Roscoea Purpurea var. Procera is a tuberous perennial plant in the ginger family that produces exotic, orchid-like purple or bi-colored flowers on upright stems above lance-shaped leaves. Native to mountainous regions of the Himalayas, this plant thrives in cool conditions and shaded or semi-shaded spots with rich, moist but well-drained soil. It’s ideal for woodland gardens, rock gardens, shaded borders, and ornamental containers — adding unusual, architectural blooms in summer when many other shade perennials are at their peak.
