How to Sow and Plant

Sow seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost, or direct sow outdoors 2–4 weeks before the last frost. Plant seeds ¼ inch (0.6 cm) deep in moist, fertile, well-draining soil. Space seeds 1–2 inches (2.5–5 cm) apart, rows 12–18 inches (30–45 cm) apart. Thin seedlings to 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) apart once they have a few leaves.

How to Grow

Provide full sun to partial shade (4–6 hours). Maintain consistently moist soil. Fertilize with organic compost or balanced fertilizer. Mulch to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Protect from pests like aphids, leaf miners, or snails using organic methods.

Tips

Succession sow every 2–3 weeks for continuous harvest.

Harvest baby leaves with scissors and mature leaves by cutting at the base. Spinach prefers cool weather and may bolt in high heat.
